Layered Lighting — Tips for Lighting Small Spaces

A foundational design technique is creating a layered lighting concept. Layered lighting is an easy way to promote safety and mood in a space.

There are different types of lighting and each should be curated to help improve the overall ambience, functionality, and comfort of a living space.

We've broken this often intimidating down task into three easy steps for you.

Warm Lighting

In more relaxing spaces of your home, consider using warm lighting. Warm lighting provides a feeling of softness and comfort, making your space feel inviting and cozy.

Look for warm dim bulbs, or bulbs with a color temperature in the 2700k range (Kelvins) — this number indicates a warmer light quality.

Use a Unique Decorative Fixture to Draw the Eye Up

Placing a one-of-a-kind decorative fixture in the center of your room will help help ground the space and adds interests and beauty to any design concept. We love sourcing unique fixtures for our clients that will serve as conversation starters for years.

Use Portable Lighting to Visually Expand Your Space

The careful placement of lighting is a great way to increase the feeling of space in a room.

Placing floor lamps and table lamps in the corners of the room will draw the eye to the furthest distance, allowing the fullness of the space to be realized. This simple trick will make your space feel larger.
