Top 3 Myths of Sustainable Design

Let’s debunk the top three myths of sustainable design. From cost to availability and more, sustainability has come a long way in the past 20 years and is stepping into the design spotlight.

Sustainable Design Is So Expensive

Like any build project, when you work with the right build team, they can balance your project needs with your investment. With advances in technology and broader availability, many sustainable materials and finishes are on par with standard material costs. Additionally, due to consumer demand, many prominent, more established brands are releasing eco-friendly lines of their products. You can especially see this when it comes to paint and wallpaper

It’s Not Beautiful

What comes to mind when you think of “sustainable design”? Chances are, it’s a picture painted by the movies or a TV show—typically, there is a hippie-dippie relative living in an old log cabin. While we love log cabins, and the relative has some good points, sustainable design isn’t wholly rustic.

Sustainable options come in all design styles, shapes, colors, and finishes. Also, keep in mind that hand-made, artisan pieces are very sustainable. Some of my favorite artisan pieces come from GoodWood Nashville or Phillips Collection

Sustainable Design Takes Too Much Time

As a build professional with almost a decade of experience, I can tell you that sustainable design options are widely available and take no longer to procure than standard elements. From tile to furnishings, many sustainable elements that are made in the USA are being produced and delivered faster these days.

And when it comes to construction, sustainable builders, such as Plant Prefab, can build faster than their standard counterparts.
