Water Element and Your Home Design

How to incorporate the water element into your home's design.

One of the key elements of feng shui is using the five elements to create harmony in your space. While each of the five elements of feng shui are important, they each play a key role in the vibe of your home. The water element affects the flow of good fortune and abundance, and in regards to the bagua map, it’s the element associated with your career. If you’re looking to balance your space, focus on your career and bring some good fortune your way. Here are some tips for incorporating the water element into your space.

Color is one of the easiest ways to incorporate the water element. Look for blacks and blues to incorporate into your space. This can be in the form of paint, furniture, artwork, textiles, and more.

Shapes

If a black or blue color palette won’t work in your space but you need to bring in the water element, look for items with sinuous shapes and lines that flow or have waves. Think of the curve of a headboard in your bedroom or an occasional armchair with flowing lines. A decorative vase or even an abstract sculpture are wonderful ways to bring the shapes of water into the room.

Sometimes we forget that bringing the truest form of the element into the space is often the easiest. Consider adding a small indoor fountain to an office or workspace. The sound of the water also has a wonderful white noise effect that is perfect for boosting focus and productivity. An aquarium or small bowl with a betta fish is another fun way to bring in the water element, especially if you have little ones at home.

If adding water to your space is not an option, then look for a piece of artwork that features water. I personally love calming seascapes.
