The bathroom arguably takes the biggest beating during the holiday season, with the kitchen being a strong second place contender. There is no reason, however, that it cannot be a special place of beauty and retreat for both you and and any guests that you have coming your way. Here are some tips for keeping the space fresh:Read More

Greetings from the design desk at MOTIV Interiors! June 2018 proved to be quite a productive month, and although the MOTIV Monthly is coming to you a few days behind schedule, I'd like to embrace its tardiness in the spirit of a lazy summer day. Nashville's weather is easing into that time of year when everything is heavy and hot. The humidity sinks in to the bone, and while the instinct is to run and hide, I would argue that this time of year provides the perfect opportunity to embrace Tennessee's beautiful lakes and waterways. It's also completely reasonable to seek comfort and shelter within a beautiful interior space of your choosing as the heat index continues to climb outdoors.
It's the little moments of refreshment and delight that make the mood dial swing to the positive side this time of year - half a lemon adding a much needed shock of citrus to a cold glass of ice water...4th of July fireworks viewed from the perch of a downtown billboard..."Sorry Sundays" spent playing board games under string lights with hilarious friends and cold beers on ice. However you choose to beat the heat, I sincerely hope you carve out a little time to embrace that spirit of summer adventure. If someone offers you a ride in a helicopter - just say yes! Read on for a few field notes from this month...
I was fortunate enough to enjoy two short lake adventures last month - one with friends at a cabin rental on Douglas Lake in East Tennessee and another long weekend with family at Lake Martin about 90 minutes southeast of Birmingham, Alabama. I have to say the calming effects of being on the water stay with you long after you leave the lake - I am a big fan of #LakeLife.
My rather ambitious "Made in Nashville, U.S.A." topic for this month led me to many exciting finds - there are just too many great sources right here in Nashville to gush about all of them in one blog post! It just goes to show that with a little bit of research and determination, you can find sustainable options right in your own neighborhood. Next month, I'll be featuring a few local visual artists with big talent that are still accessible for entry level art collectors such as myself. Moving forward, I'll continue to let you in on my favorite local and regional sources for interior materials and products, and together we can explore what Nashville has to offer its design community!
I'm excited to begin photographing projects and sharing them with MOTIV Monthly readers - check out the "Twins on 12th" project that just wrapped up in June on the Portfolio page. What a great pair of clients to work for! The word on the street is that these two 8-year-olds are loving their newly designed spaces and keeping them neat and tidy (according to Mom and Dad). These two spaces were reinvisioned with indoor air quality in mind and as always, we kept the focus on functionality and eco-friendly furnishings and materials.
Thank you for tuning in this month - and again, I hope you take time to recharge as we pass the halfway point of this calendar year. I'm not going to be hard on myself for publishing this post a few days late; life is too short, and I accomplished a great deal during the month of June. I am happy. As we all try to live with intention and cultivate wellness through positive choices, I'll leave you with a lighthearted quote to help propel you into July...
