Binary Bathroom Remix

RENDRINGS:  MOTIV Interiors

DESIGN CHALLENGE:

This mid-century home in Eastern Washington started out with a less than ideal floor plan for its two bathrooms; the large secondary bathroom encompassed much of the real estate with a tub/shower combo and large vanity, leaving the master bath with just a tiny shower and nowhere for the homeowners to retreat privately and take a bath.  Furthermore, the interior location of the guest bath left it quite literally in the dark.

DESIGN SOLUTION:

MOTIV Interiors redesigned this small footprint for maximum functionality and relaxation;  the first step was to bring light into the secondary bathroom with the addition of a frosted clerestory window between the two spaces.  This allows natural light into the smaller bathroom.  Both spaces are given a lighter wall and floor treatment with textural earth-toned field tile and a soft off-white paint selection.

The calming Zen vibe is expressed additionally with a natural material palette; deep charcoal tiles cover the floors of the now spacious showers, and rich warm cedar enlivens the casework and trim details throughout.  A soaker tub and double vanity elevate the now larger bathroom to master status, while the secondary bath remains functional and pleasing with plenty of extra storage in the inset medicine cabinet.
